Interview with Eran Zinman, Co-founder and CTO at monday.com

In this interview, Eran Zinman, Co-founder and CTO at monday.com (formerly dapulse) elaborates on how a transparent culture can foster change in the largest of enterprises and the need to empower teams with information. Eran has been developing and coding since the age of nine. Before co-founding the team management platform monday.com, he was part of the leadership team at Conduit Mobile (now Como) where he managed R&D operations. Eran has a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Tel Aviv University.

Tell us about your product/business and your specific role?

I am the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of monday.com, a team management tool that’s designed to connect people to processes while empowering its users and creating a transparent work environment.

What is the core issue your product/technology aims to address and what sets it apart from the other players in the market?

monday.com addresses the core issues faced in the workplace by streamlining and improving work for teams of all sizes. It’s designed to be adaptable to any teams needs so that they are aligned and empowered to work more independently. The platform is simple and flexible enough to meet the needs of two people working together, as well as vastly complex workplace operations of thousands, spanning different departments and time zones.

Our commitment to creating a transparent work environment is what sets monday.com apart from any other solution. The platform sheds light on the big picture and how each team member’s work contributes towards the greater goal. As teams get bigger and more distributed, the need for transparency becomes even more critical. I don’t know of another tool has this value built into its DNA like monday.com.

What’s the one industry, sector or role that your technology is most relevant to?

Interestingly, our platform spans over 200 different industry verticals, 70% of which are from the non-tech savvy industry. Businesses in every space you can imagine from hotels to construction companies, universities to government agencies, all have tremendous success with monday.com in ways never expected.

What are some of the common challenges your customers approach you with?

The most common challenges we hear about from teams are issues with workplace communication and organization, a general lack of direction, unclear goals, excessive and unproductive meetings and feeling overwhelmed by emails flooding their inboxes.

Using technology to affect transformation usually starts with a transformation of beliefs and mindsets. How do you consult enterprise clients and help them make that important shift in mindset to move ahead on a particular project or implementation?

As I mentioned, transparency is the core principle of monday.com and we’ve witnessed how creating transparency in even the largest of enterprises inspires change. Our platform is built around empowering teams with information.

When people feel empowered and “in the loop”, they are happier at work.

In turn, teams achieve more together because they’re making decisions for themselves. We facilitate companies of any size becoming more transparent so teams can harness their full intelligence to move both faster and smarter and ultimately achieve more together.

Give us an example of an enterprise meeting a digital transformation goal through your product?

We have enterprise teams of all sizes using our platform. We witnessed an especially striking example though when one of the largest institutional banks in Canada, an industry not typically known for using digital solutions, started using monday.com for their workplace operations. They started with a small account and now have thousands of users onboarded. The bank has found great success in improving collaboration and communication on monday.com.

What present or upcoming technologies you think have the maximum potential to accelerate enterprise digital transformation?

Big data is becoming more and more impactful. In extracting qualitative and quantitative insights from our data, we learn how to design and develop better technology. This educates companies around the world to build delightful, intuitive products that people love to use and, therefore, can achieve better results.

What’s your go to resource – websites, newsletters, any other – that you use to stay in touch with the explosive changes happening in the digital space?

I have always been really impressed by how Wired covers advancements in the digital space. They do a great job of mixing deep editorial with awesome visuals. It’s one of my favorite publications.

Read a good book lately on digital transformation that you’d like to recommend to us?

I must admit that I haven’t! But I’d love to hear recommendations from anyone who has 🙂
